Learning Standards / PARCC
The New Jersey Student Learning Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
NJASCD has created a virtual space where educators meet or visit for all aspects of quality curriculum and implementation issues connected to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards, adopted June, 2016.
Common Core Standards
Implications for Teacher Preperation
The Common Core Standards present a new vision for teaching and learning and, in so doing, impact the preparation and programming offered to teacher candidates. NJACTE and the professional organizations in the state sponsored a symposium on March 30, 2012 that presented the changes and the implications that will lead to candidates who are prepared to enter the profession. Creating meaningful dialogue among higher education, K-12 leadership, and professional associations around the issues of major change that shape this new vision may be the first step in creating a continuum of learning for those entering our profession.
